Admire the Georgian style Bismarck House, which was built by Anton Sattler in 1876 for a private residence and boarding house. In 1910 it became a private hospital servicing the people of the Bega Valley. In the maternity ward , Matron Murton helped deliver approximately 2,000 young Australians into the valley. Bismarck House in 1940s was converted into small residential flats. In 1964 Roy and Coral Sheehan purchased the property then known as Thornleigh. Roy grew prize winning dahlias, roses and always had plenty of fresh vegetables to share with the tenants. Norm and Narelle Pearce purchased the property from the Sheehan's when they entered aged care. The Pearce's had dreams of restoring the building and its surrounds to its prior glory. The restoration was completed in 2009.
