Newland Head Conservation Park is located seven kilometres from the seaside town of Victor Harbor. It takes its name from the rugged headlands that shelter its two long sandy beaches. Waitpinga and Parsons Beach, known for their hard-breaking waves are favourites with local surfers. Beach fishing is also popular here, with salmon, salmon trout and mullet often caught within casting distance from shore.
The Heysen Trail, which extends for 1200 kilometres passes through the park. Look for the trail head markers to point you in the right direction and enjoy panoramic views of Kangaroo Island, The Pages in Backstairs Passage and Waitpinga Cliffs.
Several walking trails also start from Waitpinga campground. This popular camping area includes picnic tables, toilets and gas barbecue facilities. Please note due to the fragile coastal environment, wood fires are prohibited all-year round. Due to strong currents, fishing from the rocks and swimming are extremely dangerous and not recommended.
